Our Story
Hi, I’m Shannon!
This is how it all started…
It sounds cliche, but it is the truth: The mountains of Western North Carolina called and I listened! Living in Avery County, raising my family, building my business, and serving my community, continues to be my greatest joy. Here, I am surrounded by the best Mother Nature has to offer. The Newland community welcomed us with generosity of spirit and consistent support of my store, The Consignment Cottage Warehouse.
I began my business in 2011 with the urging of fellow business women and friend Susan Brown, the owner of Banner Elk Consignment Cottage, when my youngest child was settled in school and my entrepreneurial spirit was, once again, awakened. I moved here from Delray Beach Florida in 1997, after selling Shining Through, my beachside neighborhood bookstore.

I have always loved interior design and have, over the years, developed, through good research and other education, an eye for quality furniture. Avery County is unique in that in addition to having generational homesteads, it also enjoys a robust seasonal population. Consignment is based on relationships and good relations are built on time, trust, knowledge, and, in my case, presentation. My customers, both local and state-wide, come to me with their family treasures and I am able to sell their treasures to grace new families, and to give the sellers a fair price in exchange. The Consignment Cottage Warehouse is a 5,000 square foot warehouse where I have created elegant living room, dining room, and bedroom vignettes, featuring high quality, gently used furniture, lighting, art, and home accessories. I receive top-of-the-line furniture from customers who are redecorating or have just purchased a furnished home. Additionally, I also receive furniture from families who want their heirlooms to live on in other's homes. Both are uniquely satisfying.
